GCSE English Examination Tuition

Does your child struggle in English or are they looking to boost their GCSE grade? 

  • I provide an initial free consultation with you and your son or daughter to assess and plan a 6 week or 12 week programme of 1:1 lessons online or in person. 

  • The programme will also be tailored to meet individual needs in English Language and/or English Literature GCSE and to prepare your son or daughter to confidently meet the challenges of the GCSE exam. 

  • Courses in Language will include effective critical analysis of texts and question-specific techniques for Reading; and planning and structuring effective Creative Writing and Persuasive Writing. Secure knowledge of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar will also be addressed. 

  • Courses in Literature will include text-specific knowledge of themes, characterisation and context; appropriate selection and structured analysis of quotations; and effective planning and structure of literature analysis essays. 

  • Small group, intensive courses are also available.

  • I also provide support for A Level Literature coursework.

RESULTS

In terms of GCSE results, both as a Lead Practitioner and former Head of Department, my students, in partnership with their families, have achieved consistently high levels of attainment and progress.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE RESULTS

 

In the last fully examined year, across a mixed attainment Year 11 class, my students achieved an SPI of 0.7, equivalent to nearly all my students exceeding their target GCSE grade by almost a grade when compared to other students nationally.

  • 83.3% of my students achieved Grades 4 to 9

  • 75% achieved Grades 5 to 9

  • 50% achieved Grade 6 and above

  • 75% achieved Grade 5 and above

  • 16.7% achieved Grades 8 to 9

ENGLISH LITERATURE RESULTS

In the last examined year, across a mixed attainment Year 11 class, my students achieved an SPI of 0.44, equivalent to nearly all my students exceeding their target GCSE grade by almost half a grade when compared to other students nationally.

  • 83.3% of my students achieved Grades 4 to 9

  • 66.7% achieved Grades 5-9

  • 41.7% achieved Grade 6 and above

  • 25% achieved Grade 7 and above

  • 4.2% achieved Grades 8 to 9
